Two officers, eight members, three guests, and two sons (15 total participants) at a great time at the 1/14/06 Sporting Clays and Skeet Shoot at the Capitol City Trap & Skeet Range. A visiting sporting clays expert had reset the course and it was considerably harder. We shot 10 stations on the regular (masters level) course. Isaac Price came in first place with 26/50 (his first first place finish). Ron Denison and Bret Mercer tied for second with 25/50. Kenneth Kidd came in third with 24/50. He was followed by Tim Price with 22/50, Joe Schram with 21/50, Mark Dillow with 19/50, me (Randy Rowley) and Tyler Price with 18/50, Matthew Rankin with 12/50, Regina Kidd with 11/50, Ken Miller with 8/50, and Dick Matteson with 4/50.
Isaac and Kenneth really didn't have close head to head competition but Ron and Bret had a good match. On the first station that we shot Ron jumped out to a one bird lead. Ron maintained his lead through the next station but Bret caught him on the next one. At the fourth and fifth stations they remained tied but on the sixth station Ron jumped out to a three bird lead. Bret caught him by two on the seventh station and tied it up again on the eight station. Bret went up by one on the ninth station. On the tenth station, Bret went 4/6 and Ron went 5/6 causing them to end the match in a tie. Ron and I thought that he missed his last bird but Bret and Matthew said that a couple of pieces broke off the top.
Thanks to Shooters Fellowship for providing hot coffee, juice, and breakfast tacos. FCS member Joe Schram heads up Shooters Fellowship, which is a ministry to men who are on the skeet/trap/sporting clays tour and who do not participate in a church.
Several shooters also shot a round of skeet.
