Four members and one youth member (five total participants) had a great time at the 2/11/05 – 2/13/05 Hog Hunt at the Cottrell Ranch near Mercury. Warren Hoke took home two nice sized hogs, Isaac Price took home a large sow, and Tim Price took home a piglet. David Chalmers shot a hog that we could not find (but we did find blood and chunks of flesh). I, Randy Rowley, was skunked. There were a gazillion hog tracks and stool all throughout the 260 acre wooded area and some wallows in a large coastal field and behind the approximate 10 acre lake. After the first night the hogs no longer came to the feeders. Tim shot his piglet while we were doing a group stalk hunt on Saturday afternoon and Isaac missed a running one on Sunday morning during a group stalk hunt. Tim would have had gotten a large pig from the stand he was hunting but his gun wouldn't fire. Warren would have had at least another pig but his barrel hit the window frame as he was putting it out the window and scared the piglets away. Warren shot his first pig from a group of about 30. We saw about 50 pigs total but there are probably at least twice that many in the area.
