3/26/05 Sporting Clays and Skeet Shoot

Twenty participants (16 shooters) had a great time at the 3/26/05 Sporting Clays and Skeet Shoot at the Capitol City Skeet & Trap Range.  It was a cool day and the wind made the targets challenging to say the least.  It had also poured the night before so the course was a swamp.  We shot eight stations.  Capitol City once again laid out a challenging (perhaps too challenging) course.  The terror of the Sporting Clays Course, Tim Price, came in first place with 27/50.  Wild Bill Smith and Eddy Chance tied for second place.  Bill shot 26/50 (this was Bill's first shoot since 3/20/93).  Eddy shot 25/48 (equivalent to 26.04/50).  Although Eddy was statistically ahead by .04 I'm going to call this one a tie because Bill actually broke 26.  Jason Brelsford came in third place with 24/50.  He was followed by me, Randy Rowley, with 19/50, Richard Garrett with 18/48 (equivalent to 18.75/50), Larry Dowden with 16/50 (the first time that Larry did not place - where score was kept), first time guest Harold Terry with 15/49 (equivalent to 15.31/50), Isaac Price with 14/50, Tim Little with 13/48 (equivalent to 13.54/50), Brian Brelsford with 11/44 (equivalent to 12.50/50), first time sporting clays shooter Gary McKensie with 11/48 (equivalent 11.46/50), Ron Denison and Ken Miller with 10/50, first time sporting clays shooter Jim Gault with 8/50, and first time guest Donna Little with 1/44 (equivalent to 1.14/50).  Station three was out of order.  The trend continued that the first six stations were easier than the last (we shot five of the first six stations and three of the second six stations).  On stations six and seven the group managed a combined 15/166!  That is not a typo!  Only 9% of the targets were broken!  I'm not ashamed to admit that I went 0/12 on those two stations but I was joined by six other shooters!  Only Bill, Eddy, and Tim Little broke more than one target on those two stations!  To be fair stations four and five were pretty easy.  Tim Price went 15/16 on those two stations for example.  We had three groups and, in order to save time, we flip flopped stations (one group shot station one while another group shot station two, etc.).  Therefore I can't give a true station to station comparison.  But for my group Tim Price and Bill had quite a battle.  Tim was ahead 3 to 1 after station 1.  He increased his lead to 5 to 3 on station 2.  On station 3 we jumped to a commanding 13 to 8 lead.  He maintained that lead on station 4 with 20 to 15 and station 5 with 21 to 16.  On station 6 Bill caught up by one to 22 to 18.  On station 7 Bill caught up two to 22 to 20.  On the last station Bill broke six and Tim got five so Bill came up one short.  Several shooters also shot a round of skeet.  The Price's also shot a round of skeet.  Check out the Sporting Clay and Five Stand Shoots Scorecard for history, finishes, and averages.
