The January - March quarter of 2005 was a good one for FCS.  We had 79 total participants, which was our fifth best for this quarter ever, however, it fell short of 2004 by seven participants.  It still blew away what was our average for this quarter (56).  We had six events for this quarter - which tied last year.  We had three men join the Club during this quarter.  We also had two hog hunts this quarter.

We had five votes during the first quarter of 2005.

On 1/28/05 the active Club members voted to raise the Club membership dues to $20.00/year and to change the primary benefit to a FCS T-shirt and an FCS Cap.  This option received 11 votes.  An option to keep the annual membership due at $12.00/year (the primary membership benefit would have been a cap) received 2 votes.  An option to have four membership choices (T-shirt and cap - $20.00/year, T-shirt only - $15.00/year, Cap only - $10.00/year, No T-shirt or cap - $6.00/year) received one vote.  An option to raise the annual membership due to $15.00/year (the primary membership benefit would have been a T-shirt or a cap) received 2 votes.  The Main Page and Bylaws and Adult Application pages were revised to reflect these changes.

On 2/11/05, by a vote of 7 to 6, the active Club members approved a three month trial of a EZ Board Discussion Forum for the FCS website.  This trial cost the Club $9.95 for three months.

On 3/10/05, by a vote of 12 to 0, the active Club members approved adding a Saturday, 3/19/05 through Sunday, 3/20/05 Hog Hunt at the Cottrell Ranch near Mercury to the 2005 Calendar.

On 3/11/05, by a vote of 3 to 0, the Club officers made an Executive Decision and to approve the purchase of a 24 quart strainer for the FCS turkey pot at Academy for $12.98.  As this was not a purchase of $50.00 or more a vote by the active Club members was not required as per our Bylaws. This purchase was reflected on the Treasurer's Report 1-1-05 - 3-31-05.

On 3/29/05 by a vote of 4 to 0 the Club officers made an Executive Decision to add a Saturday, 4/9/05 through Sunday, 4/10/05 Hog Hunt at the Cottrell Ranch near Mercury to the 2005 Calendar.  There was insufficient time to hold a minimum one week discussion period and a minimum one week vote concerning this proposed event as per our Bylaws, therefore, an Executive Decision was made.

See the Apparel page for current T-shirt and Cap inventories.

I must admit that I am very disappointed in the vast majority of Club members responses to the Discussion Forum.  To date only Mark Dillow and I are the only FCS members who have made postings on the Forum.  I've given up trying to convince you guys of it's value and exhorting you to use it.  When the three month trial expires in early 5/05 I will make no effort to have it renewed.  I throw in the white towel!  My only question is was it this hard to get you guys to switch from 8 track tapes to cassettes?

On a positive note, this next quarter promises to be an exciting one for FCS members and guests.  We're planning our third hog hunt of the year (a new record) on 4/9/05 - 4/10/05.  Our Annual 24 Hour Clay Target Shoot will be on 4/22/05 - 4/23/05.  We have ten members committed to this event so far.  We'll shoot Sporting Clays again on 5/21/05 and also in June.  We'll probably add a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) class for FCS members only on 5/14/05.  We'll also have meetings on 4/7/05 and 6/2/05.  See Upcoming Events Details for specific information.

We also now have enough fishermen for the 8/4/05 - 8/5/05 Bay Fishing Trip for two boats.

The 24 Hour Clay Target Shoot must be paid in full ASAP.  The CHL class requires a $50.00 deposit and the Bay Fishing Trip requires a $75.00 deposit.  Mail the checks to me ASAP at 11612 Birchbark Trail, Austin, TX, 78750 in order to secure your spot.

I hope to see you at an FCS event soon.

Following His trail,

Randy Rowley
