7/21/06 - 7/23/06 Non-Chartered Bay Fishing Trip

Three officers, two members, one guest, and one son (seven total participants) had a great time at the First Ever FCS non-chartered Bay Fishing Trip on 7/21/06 - 7/23/06 in the Corpus Christi/Port Aransas/Aransas Pass area.  Mark Dillow and I arrived on Friday afternoon and fished Friday evening at the Packery Channel.  Mark paddled over to a small island in his kayak and I fished from the bank.  Mark caught a small Redfish on his fly rod and I caught what looked like a perch using a Rattle Trap on my bait-casting rod.  On Saturday Derrich and Will Pollock, Steve Watkins, Jim Quimby, and I fished from Jim's boat on the Land Cut and Baffin Bay south of Corpus Christi.  We caught about 10 fish each.  I caught six Speckled Trout, two Redfish, two hardhead catfish, and one large Black Drum.  We used live shrimp for bait.  We ended up with four keeper sized trout and three Black Drum.  Mark fished with Ronnie Ross.  They used Ronnie's boat to take them to Mud Island in Aransas Bay and then wade fished all day (until about 9:00 PM).  Ronnie caught one shy of a limit of Speckled Trout (nine) and they both caught their limit of  Redfish (three each) using live shrimp for bait.  The fishing really turned on about 4:00 PM.  They caught 20 more keeper sized Redfish that they released.  They report that it was the best bay fishing that either has experienced.  On Sunday morning Mark and I fished Wilson's Cut and the adjoining bays in Mark's kayaks.  I caught a under legal-sized Redfish and released it.  Thanks to Jim, Ronnie, and Mark for brining their boats.
