8/11/07 Sporting Clays Shoot

One officer and seven members (eight total participants) had a great time on 8/11/07 Sporting Clays Shoot at the Capitol City Trap & Skeet Range.  The targets were completely different from the last time that we shot and they weren't as easy as we have grown to expect in August (Capitol City typically makes the Corporate Course easier for all the hunters who come out in August to tune up for dove season).  Although due to some good shooting there were some impressive scores.  Warren Hoke came in first place with 42/50 (his best score).  I (Randy Rowley) came in second place with 40/50 (tying my third best).  Joe Schram came in third place with 39/50 (tying his third best).  He was followed by Tim Price with 37/50, David Chalmers with 32/50 (his second best sporting clays score), Perry Barrow with 30/50 (his second best), Ken Miller with 26/50, and Bruce Crockett with 12/50.  Warren was one broken bird away from tying the club record.

Warren and I had a good head to head competition.  We tied on the first station but Warren went 10/10 on the second station and jumped out to a two bird lead.  He increased it by one on the third station.  I cut it back down to two on the fourth station and whittled it down to one on the fifth station.  Warren then went 7/8 on the sixth station.  I could have tied him if I went 8/8 but I missed two easy targets and ended up two back.

Tim and I also had a good head to head competition.  We tied on the first station but Tim went 10/10 on the second station and jumped out to a two bird lead.  I whittled it down to a one bird lead on the third station.  Tim had trouble with the first trap on the fourth station and I jumped out to a three bird lead.  Tim whittled it down by one on the fifth station but I finished three ahead.
