8/31/05 - 9/2/05 Fall Dove Hunt (San Angelo)

One officer, two members, and two guests (five total participants) had a great time at the 8/31/05 - 9/2/05 Dove Hunt with Steve Hoelscher and his "White Wings Galore Dove Hunts" near San Angelo.  The opening morning hunt was amazing.  They hunted over a harvested Milo grain field.  At 7:15 AM, the morning dove started flying.  They all started harvesting dove.  At around 7:45 AM the white wing started coming into the field in large flocks.  By 8:15 AM, they all had their 12 bird limits.  As they cleaned their birds, the white wing just kept on coming and coming.  It was an amazing thing to see.  Eddy invited Duke Boyd, a member of his deer lease, who arrived for the evening hunt.  They took him to the field and within 10 minutes he has a limit of 12 white wings.  He shot only 16 - 20 shots.  This was due to the large number of birds and the fact that Eddy and Ron were bird-dogging for him  (so he didn't have to stop to pick up his birds).  The birds were flying like gnats and he was able to pick his shots.  It was fun hunt for all of them to just watch him shoot dove after dove.  They decided to let all of the morning dove fly by and hold out for only white wings the next day.  However the birds were not flying as steady as the day before.  At around 8:45 AM they all started shooting morning dove.  What few white wing that they saw were very high.  At around 9:45 AM the white wing finally stared coming into the field.  Once again, they all limited out.  They were actually coming in lower and slower around the time they finished their limits.  Steve was very accommodating.  Everything that he said about the birds and the hunting location held true.
