Three officers and one member (four total participants) had a good time but a poor hunt at the 9/30/06 Fall Dove Hunt (central zone - Buda) at Louis and Gary Drott's season leases in the Buda, Mustang Ridge, and Creedmoor areas. I, Randy Rowley, got three dove and a pigeon, Kevin Wall got two dove, and Mark Dillow and Kenneth Kidd got a dove each. I had a fairly exciting minute and a half. A dove landed directly in front of me about 35 yards away. I walked towards it and it flushed. I nailed it on my second shot. I started walking towards it and about five dove flew from right to left in front of me. I shot once (I couldn't shoot more than once as I hadn't had time to reload yet) and another dove fell. I reloaded as I walked and picked up the first dove. I then went and got the second. As I was putting the second dove in my bag a fast moving dove flew by from left to right. I led it about six feet and nailed it. After this brief activity I only shot at one more dove the rest of the morning.
