I, Randy Rowley, propose the following outfitters for consideration for future hog hunts:
Archery only
They charge $75 per day with a two day minimum ($150) for a limit of two hogs. There are no kill fees. Night hunting is allowed. They are located near Hondo (118 miles SW from Austin). Lodging is included at no additional charge.
They charge $75 per day with a two day minimum ($150) for a limit of two hogs. There are no kill fees. They are located near Sabinal (138 miles SW from Austin). Lodging is included at no additional charge. Eddy Chance, Larry Dowden, Ken Farmer, and I hunted there on the 3/23/95 - 3/24/95 Hog Hunt. The highlight of the hunt was we chased a black sow and a red hog around in an approximately 40 acre hog pen for a couple of hours. Ken bounced an arrow off of the sow's skull but Eddy later killed it.
They offer spring Hog and Javelina Hunts for $65 per day with a two day minimum ($130). There are no kill fees. You are allowed to harvest one Javelina per hunt and one hog for each day that you hunt. They are located near Eagle Pass (226 miles WSW from Austin) and have 5700 acres. Lodging is included at no additional charge.
They charge $75 per day with a two day minimum ($150) for a limit of two hogs. A one hog and one sheep hunt is $125/day (two day minimum). A one hog and one exotic hunt is $175/day (two day minimum). There are no kill fees. They are located near Pearsall (139 miles SW from Austin) and have 450 high fenced acres. Lodging is included at no additional charge.
Every archery only place that I found requires a two day minimum hunt. I've checked out several places recommended from www.texasbowhunter.com and http://www.texasboars.com. A lot of the recommended places are $500 and up. I am not very excited about First Point as they're pretty far away. Eddy, Larry, Ken, and I felt that Brush Country's hogs were skittish from being over hunted. Mesquite is my first choice. 450 acres is not too big to chase them around in and there are other options at reasonable prices. Bar E is my second choice.
Gun and Archery
They charge $150 per gun for a half night with a limit of one hog. Fees for additional hogs: hogs up to 50 lbs. = $50.00, anything over 50 lbs. = $100. They have red LED lights at each feeder. You can hunt with rifles and they have tree stands set up for bow, pistol, or shotgun hunting just 25 yards away. They are located near Ennis and Telico (181 miles NE from Austin) and have 3000 acres.
They charge $150 per hunter for one hog up to 100 Pounds, full guide service, predator and varmint hunting, fishing, squirrel hunting, and day use of their camp house. Each pound over 100 Pounds results in an additional $1.00 per pound trophy fee. Their maximum trophy fee is $100. Examples: 75 lb. hog = $150, 115 lb. hog = $165, 245 lb. hog = $250, and 500 lb. hog = $250. Any other hogs for that day are $1 per pound. Blood equals a kill and all fees apply. Their lodging charge is $25 per hunter. They are located near Centerville (143 miles NE from Austin).
They charge $150 per hunter for two nights of hunting. Each additional night is $75. Each hunter is required to purchase two bags of corn ($10). They are located in Archer County about 260 miles NW from Austin. The Pipeliner Motel in Olney is the closest lodging to the Archer County Ranch (13 miles from their south ranch entry gate and 20 miles from their north ranch entry gate). They also rent a house to up to eight hunters in Archer City.
Middle Fork Ranch is my first choice as they appear to not have a bag limit and you get to hunt for two nights, but they are twice as far as their competition. Bwanas is my second choice. The Langley Ranch website pictures look like they are Hog City U.S.A., but they are the most expensive.
