The following information was received from the NRA and GOA. I, Randy Rowley, combined excerpts from both e-mails.
The floor debate has begun in the U.S. Senate on SB 1805 (formerly SB 659/SB 1806), and a vote could come at any time! SB 1805 will prohibit gun ban advocates from filing reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt America's firearms industry (or force manufacturers to adopt gun restrictions on the firearms they sell). The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a similar bill last year to block these baseless lawsuits against firearms and ammunition manufacturers.
But this will not be the only measure considered. Anti-gun
Senators like Dianne Feinstein are lining up to offer anti-gun
amendments to this bill -- provisions that would extend the Clinton ban on
semi-automatic firearms or impose restrictions at gun shows.
Clinton's Semi-auto Ban Worse Than Commonly Reported
The semi-auto ban, contrary to popular belief, outlawed more than 180 firearms
-- not simply 19, as is commonly reported. Even before
the Clinton ban was enacted, federal surveys showed that violent criminals only
carried a "military-type gun" in about one percent of
the crimes nationwide. The Clinton semi-auto ban is a total fraud.
Gun Show Restrictions And Bans
The gun show amendment would outlaw the private sale of firearms at gun shows,
unless the buyer agrees to submit to a background
registration check. If the Senate were to adopt the Feinstein language, it would
effectively eliminate gun shows because every member of an organization
sponsoring a gun show could be imprisoned if the organization fails to notify
each and every "person who attends the special firearms event of the
requirements (under the Brady Law)."
Thus, if the person responsible for handing out "Brady pamphlets" took a break
to go to the bathroom, everyone responsible for the
event could be sent to prison.
GOA has already notified every Senator that we will OPPOSE SB 659 IF IT IS
AMENDED WITH ANY GUN CONTROL PROVISIONS.
If either of the above amendments is tacked onto SB 659, then the correct vote
is "NO" on SB 659!

----- Pre-written letter -----
Dear Senator:
Please do not accept any anti-gun amendments to SB 659, the gun manufacturers'
protection act.
SB 659 is not worth swallowing an extension on the Clinton semi-auto ban or
restrictions on gun shows. Both of these measures would
constitute very egregious violations of Congress' constitutional authority. I
hope you will do everything in your power to make sure
these amendments do not end up in the bill.
If either of these provisions does make it onto SB 659, I urge you to vote
AGAINST the entire bill. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Your name
